How to change the save location for Windows 10 camera app

When it comes to storage options in regards to media in Windows 10, users are fairly limited. You can only choose between available partitions, including the external drives. This isn’t exactly the preferable solution, but that’s how it works. One could assume that you’ll be able to choose any given location from that drop-down menu, but the choice is as broad as it can be.

Here’s how to do it: In my case, since I have two HDD partitions (system and data partitions), I can choose between one of them. The system will recreate the whole directory path in the alternative partition if you make changes. So, the original C:UsersYour usernamePicturesCamera Roll will basically get mirrored to an alternative partition or external drive. Creating redundant folder tree in the process. This should work for all partitions you have at your disposal, including thumb flash drive. If you unplug it and take a new photo, the Save location will get defaulted to C:UsersYour usernamePicturesCamera Roll.

Except, there’s a catch. If you cut the whole folder bearing your username and paste it wherever you want, all newly-taken photos will be stored there. I’ve tested this and it surprisingly works rather fine. The important thing is to keep the directory tree untouched. Just cut & paste the folder to any given location, and every new photo will be stored there. Also, you won’t be able to set C: as your preferred storage, and then cut-paste the folder to an alternative partition. It won’t work.
