Huawei showcased its new Cloud PC app at Asia CES 2018. There the company demonstrated its new streaming service for Windows 10 by connecting a phone with an expanded display via the mobile’s USB-C port. The Cloud PC app streamed Windows 10 to the phone, which was then also projected on the larger external display. Huawei Cloud PC provides a virtualized Windows 10 on mobile phones and enables users to open phone files with the virtual platform. However, it is not a virtualization app as it depends on Huawei servers, which are currently restricted to China only. As such, internet connectivity is an essential prerequisite to stream Windows 10 to phones. Huawei confirmed that Cloud PC will be available for its own phones and tablets. The app will be available for the Huawei P20, Mate 10, MediaPad M5 and Mate 5 devices. The company will launch Cloud PC in China, and, if Huawei establishes servers in Europe, the app might also get a European release. However, Huawei will probably not launch Cloud PC in the USA. The United States has grown increasingly suspicious of Huawei due to its alleged involvement in Chinese espionage. As such, fewer and fewer Huawei products are available in the U.S. with the Americans taking a firm line on the company. Huawei is even reputedly developing its own alternative OS to Android and Windows in the event that Google and Microsoft withdraw platform support for Huawei devices. Cloud PC will certainly enhance the flexibility of Huawei’s phones and tablets. With Windows 10 streamed to a phone or tablet, users will no longer need to transfer files to desktops or laptops to open them in native Windows apps. Huawei has hinted that it might launch the app in Europe, but the company has not provided any clear release date or RRP details for Cloud PC as of yet. RELATED STORIES TO CHECK OUT:
