As for the bug itself, every time a user tried using the search bar, it would freeze entirely. Additionally, users cannot right-click the search box, which is necessary for when they try pasting whatever is on the clipboard. It is suspected that this bug has something to do with a preview feature introduced in the last update. For those of you that don’t know, this new feature allowed suggestions to appear in the search box as you would type, similar to Google’s suggestions. Thus, a bad implementation of this new feature lead to the appearance of this bug.

Patch Tuesday will fix File Explorer search box freezing issues

Microsoft has already released a series of fixes for these bugs, and those that are part of the Windows Insider programs have already begun testing them out. As far as the world-wide release goes, we should expect these updates to hit live somewhere in mid-January.
