Microsoft recently discovered a security flaw in the operating system and named it Microarchitectural Data Sampling (MDS). The company quickly patched the issue in KB4499165 and KB4499151. At the time of writing this article, Windows 8.1 users have not reported any installation issues. However, you should avoid installing new security updates for about 2-3 weeks just in case some major issues went under the radar. Don’t forget to always back up your system before installing the May 2019 Patch Tuesday updates. Both of these updates can be automatically downloaded on your system via Windows Update. However, you can also visit the Microsoft Update Catalog to manually download and install them on your system.
