The new Microsoft Authenticator app for Windows 10 Mobile has the same features as it does on other platforms. Apart from giving an extra layer of protection to users on sign in, it also sports the following aspects:
Provides enterprise users the facility to log in via certificates instead of passwords. The user experience refresh makes the app extremely simple and secure at the same time. One-click push notifications feature delivers the best in breed MFA experience and spares users the need of going through the entire login system and just requires them to press “approve” to get on with the login process. Sports a new user interface. Provides support for wearables so users can use their Apple Watch or Samsung Gear device to approve MFA challenges. For any other user account, or if any of them is offline – the built-in code generator does the trick with no hassle.
Another fact about Microsoft Authenticator is that it is an update for the old Azure Authenticator app. Though not just for Windows, the update is a part of Android and iOS versions of the app as well.
What users say
There are some pleased consumers who are satisfied with the update, suggesting that the latest update has “made the app better than it was before”. As good as it might sound, there has also been a wave of complaints reported from long-term users of the app. The most frequent ones recorded are related to push notifications that reportedly do not work and fail to generate any response. The bug is triggered by several events, but even the upgrade from Azure Authenticator seems to be causing trouble. In some cases, it just does not work at all. Microsoft has also been receiving a lot of complaints from users for focusing more towards non-Windows platforms given the late release of Windows 10. The iOS and Android versions of the app seem to be receiving updates more often than the Windows one. The constant crashes and freezes, incompatibility of several features on Windows 10, trouble with adding accounts, glitches with Touch ID and the persistent issues even when installing the app have left users infuriated. Let’s hope Microsoft is going to address these widely reported issues and roll out an update with fixes soon. In the mean time, check out the app and tell us if you face any trouble while using the app that we have not mentioned. RELATED STORIES YOU NEED TO CHECK OUT:
