The Skype application is available on both mobile devices that run on iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Windows 10 Mobile, but also on desktop operating systems such as Windows, Mac OS or Linux. It is good to know that the application comes with a freemium model, which means that most of the service is free, but there is also Skype Credit which allows you to make calls on a landline or mobile phone number. A few weeks ago, at Microsoft Ignite, the company has announced the next generation of Skype Room Systems (codenamed Project Rigel). The Skype Room Systems comes with Skype for Business meeting experience with rich HD video and audio to meeting rooms. Microsoft said: “With the new Skype Room Systems, your team can work like you’re all in one place, quickly and easily join meetings, make phone calls, and instantly share content in the room and remotely—all from an elegant touch screen console device. Transform your meeting rooms and make any space a Skype meeting place.” Finally, this application that comes with this feature is now available on the Windows Store. We’re pretty sure that big companies have already thought of installing it on their meeting rooms. It is good to know that Skype Room relies on more than just the application itself. In fact, Microsoft is currently working with other partners to create a dedicated teleconferencing hardware. Logitech has already announced that Logitech SmartDock for Skype Room System bundles coming soon. At the same time Crestron’s Skype Room Systems will start shipping at the end of 2016 and Polycom MSR Series for Skype Room Systems will hit the stores sometime in yearly 2017. Below you can watch a video with Skype Room and how it functions:
