We are referring to a job posting for a Hardware Test Engineer/Manufacturing Engineer that is targeted for a position at Microsoft. This was listed by the company’s recruiter ABAL Technologies Inc. Unfortunately, the post is no longer available.

The job’s requirements

The job posting notes explicitly the primary requirement and it’s the following: the candidates must understand WIFI 802.11 standards (AX Variant), and they must have done LTE Manufacturing test on QUALCOMM (8998, and SDM 845) and/or Intel Chipsets. Q-DAT or QDAP background. The job posting also makes various references to Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 845 chipset. The post also describes that the job requires an excellent understanding of sophisticated devices such as smartphones because this would definitely be a huge advantage.

The job posting is trying to maintain a low profile regarding the employer’s identity, but unfortunately for them, the writer mentioned that MSFT would support Work Visa to travel to China if needed or work with the supplier to get the travel visa. The posting also notes that the applicant would have to travel to China on a regular basis over the next six months, suggesting that whatever is in the works at Microsoft is scheduled to reach the market sometime towards the end of 2018. The applicant would have to travel to JDM1 which is where one of Microsoft’s ODM’s, Pegatron, is located.

Could this point to the mythical Surface Phone?

The job posting suggests either that Microsoft will deliver a Surface tablet powered by a Snapdragon processor or that we might just be looking at the very first signs of the mythical device called the Surface Phone entering the realm of production. We’ll just have to wait some more and see what Microsoft has in store for the future. Either way, the news is really exciting. RELATED STORIES TO CHECK OUT:
