However, since a good number of computers that run Windows 7 and Windows 8 were not updated to the latest OS, Microsoft has started to “auto-schedule” them to upgrade without the users’ consent. Windows 10 comes with many data and monitoring tools (or command line tools), and some of the users think that Microsoft is gathering too much information from their computers. Windows 10 is able to gather web usage, search history, details of the applications that you use, geographic information, and almost anything else that is going on your computer. Microsoft claims that this information is required in order to improve its Windows-based services, but it also confirmed that it is used for market research and advertising purposes. In other words, with each user that runs Windows 10 on his computer, Microsoft gains more advertising information. And since Microsoft can earn more revenue by selling this data, it makes sense that the company wants everyone to use this new operating system. This is one of the reasons why the company is offering a Windows 10 OS upgrade for free for both Windows 7 and Windows 8 users. Unfortunately for Microsoft, there were a sizeable number of users who’ve decided to stick with the current operating system, even if they were annoyed by the pop-ups that kept telling them to move to Windows 10. Even worse is that even after closing these pop-ups, another one will return after a few hours to remind you about the free upgrade. With the end of the free upgrade period near, Microsoft has become even more vigilant by auto-scheduling the upgrade to Windows 10 without even asking permission from the users. A user with a computer running Windows 7 will have noticed by now that the pop-up is gone, replaced by a notice simply saying that the upgrade to Windows 10 is scheduled for May 17, 2016.
