In order to make sure it isn’t a Microsoft Store-related issue, they tried to install other apps as well, which they succeeded without any apparent issues. For some reason, whenever they try installing Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition, they get error code 0x80070005. For those of you who don’t know, error code 0x80070005 stands for “Access Denied”. More so, some of those that are experiencing this issue reported that they couldn’t even update their already installed game, which prevents them from logging in and playing. As reported, users have tried all of the most common solutions, including resetting their PC, signing in and out, installing the Windows 10 May 2019 Update, but nothing worked. We’ve written an extensive guide on how to fix error 0x80070005. Some of these fixes may help you fix Minecraft.

It’s Microsoft’s fault

Curiously, the issue may not actually have anything to do with the user’s PC or the software installed on their machines, but rather with Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition itself. While not officially confirmed, it is known that sometimes users experience similar errors when installing apps through the Microsoft Store when the app they are trying to download is currently being updated into the database. This scenario is further backed by the fact that Minecraft’s Java Edition was updated to version 1.14.3 on the 24th of June, which is quite a large and important update.

What should gamers do?

Taking that into consideration, the most likely explanation would be that Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition is being updated within the Microsoft Store, and that is the cause of all the problems. If that is the case, there isn’t much users can do about the matter, except wait for Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition to finish updating in the Microsoft Store and try installing it later.
