The new Microsoft Xbox Slim is rumored to come with a 2TB hard drive, though it is not certain if this drive is a hybrid similar to the one found in the Xbox elite. Furthermore, it is said the size will be 40% smaller than the original Xbox One. That’s a significant decrease in size if true, something that is much welcomed. As for the upgraded system, we have no idea what it looks like, but if the rumors are true, then we should get an early glimpse at E3 2016 in just a few weeks. However, rumors claim the box is codenamed “Scorpio”. A report from Polygon stated the system will likely be 4 times more powerful than the Xbox One. Apparently, gamers should expect Scorpio to have a max power output of 6 teraflops, which is more than what the PlayStation Neo is expected to come with. To make things even more interesting, it would seem as if Microsoft does not want to get left behind where virtual reality is concerned. HoloLens can’t possibly bridge that gap, but how about working closely with the Oculus Rift team? That’s exactly what the rumors claim Microsoft is doing. The alleged plan is to have the new Xbox game system support VR and the Oculus Rift to be the main driver. This system won’t hit store shelves until 2017, months after the alleged release of the PlayStation Neo. If the 2017 release date hold up, Microsoft would be giving Sony enough time to build up a huge following behind its new system, but then again, the Xbox One Slim coupled with a cheaper base model should be able to keep the gap from extending. Furthermore, if the Xbox One is the more powerful system, then chances are fans of the Xbox 360 who switched to the PlayStation 4 would likely hold off from purchasing a PlayStation Neo for a more powerful experience. Both the Xbox One Slim and the new Xbox, Scorpio, will support 4K output. It is not certain if the Scorpio will be able support 4K gaming on the basic level, but we’ll definitely find out.
