More and more news apps have been making their appearance on the Windows Store, trying to get as many users to download them by adding better features and more sources. And, as you might recall, we published a while back a list of awesome news apps for Windows 10, Windows 8 that every user must try. Today, we’re taking a look at another very well designed Windows 8, Windows 10 news app that some of you might want to try out, and that is newsXpresso R. If you are wondering if it’s worth switching from your current news app to newsXpresso R, then read on and see for yourself.

newsXpresso R is a Smart News App for Windows 10, Windows 8

This free app can be downloaded from the Windows Store for free, as a demo version, however, users can support the developers by purchasing the app for $2.99. We believe that it is well worth it and that users will have only to benefit from it, as it provides some nice features. The overall look of the app is very clean, despite the huge amount of information that is shown on the screen. The attention to detail and the well thought user interface make newsXpresso R a beautiful looking app that everyone can use with ease.

If you are a Google Reader user, then you can import all your RSS subscriptions from it to newsXpresso R very easily, just by selecting the Google Reader button from the Accounts tab. One other UI tweak that makes the app look good is that all the different options such as adding sources and accounts is done from the Catalog Menu, accessible via the “+” button from the upper right corner.

This makes the main window of the app very clean and it allows you to focus on your headlines. The app also supports Facebook and Tumblr connectivity, while sharing articles can be done via the bottom menu from the app or via the Share charm. In the Catalog tab, users can also add sources directly from a URL, or via the preloaded categories.

Something important to mention here is the fact that users can select a different country from the dropdown menu and add sources from their own countries. If users want to customize their main scree, they can simply right click on a source and remove it, or move it by dragging it around.

One the main menu, the different sources are shown as tiles (for each source, there is a different tile) and by clicking or tapping on one of them, you can see all the stories that were recently published. The stories are arranged in a magazine view, so they are simple to read and open.

Once a story is opened, the user can select the size of the font that is being used, a feature that most other Windows 8, Windows 10 news apps have not adopted, as well as favorite the story, see it in browser mode (a page is opened within the app) or share the story. If you want to see pictures, just click in them and it will open them within the app, allowing users to scroll through them using the dedicated buttons.

There is no video player integrated within the app, however, once you’ve clicked on a video, it will immediately open a YouTube page within the app where you can watch. The overall speed and loading time of the app and stories is pretty fast, which makes reading news a pleasure.

After fiddling a while with the app and customizing it how I wanted, I must say that I have come to enjoy it very much. The quality of the app is top notch, the customization options are just what one might want for a news app and the overall feel of newsXpresso R for Windows 10, Windows 8 is that of a premium app that should cost more. Nevertheless, I love it and I recommend it to anyone in need of a good news app. Download newsXpresso R for Windows 10, Windows 8
