Users who subscribe to the cloud will be able to enjoy new protection features. These include enhanced virus protection, File recovery, and more safety-related goodies.

Files Restore feature rolls out

One of the most important features regarding safety is the Files Restore functionality which recently hit OneDrive for Business users. According to Kirk Koeningsbauer, Corporate Vice President for Office, the Files Restore brand new feature will allow you to restore your entire OneDrive to a previous point that they chose in time. This will be limited to the last 30 days, but it’s still something. We’ll be able to use this new functionality to recover lost data due to accidental mass delete, ransomware, file corruption or anything else that might have damaged or precious data.

Microsoft also adds ransomware protection to OneDrive

Another good news is that the company also decided that some ransomware protection for the cloud storage service wouldn’t hurt. This way, if OneDrive detects cyber attackers, Office 365 subscribers will be announced right away via email and push notifications, and they’ll also get useful instructions on how they can recover their files.

Microsoft also added the opportunity to use password protected sharing links when you’re sharing OneDrive files, and this will definitely be a useful option if you have to share sensitive information. You will be able to set expiration dates before you share the files.

Outlook gets new security features

Microsoft delivers new security-related features for Outlook as well that include email encryption and the possibility to prevent forwarding emails. Files Restore feature, and Ransomware detection are already available to Office 365 subscribers. Al the other features will start rolling out in the next weeks. RELATED STORIES TO CHECK OUT:
