I’ve seen quite a few world clock apps for every platform available, and they all seem to have in common one thing: a boring user interface. But all of this is about to change with Sun Follow, a Windows 8 app that acts as a world clock and gives you information about the Sun’s position in every corner of the world.

Know what time it is everywhere in the World with Sun Follow

This free app can be downloaded from the Windows Store to any Windows 8/RT device and it will provide users who need to know what time it is in different corners of the world. Although the app is free to download, it comes with only 5 cities where you can get information, and if you want to use it for others, then you will have to unlock them. By now, you are probably wondering two things:

  1. What is so special about this app? 2. What information does it provide users? The answer to the first question is that Sun Follow for Windows 8 is not too different than other World Clock apps, as it shows the time in various places around the world. However, it does this by using a very nice and easy to follow user interface, where the user can very easily get the information he wants and he can browse through the different cities very easily. Users can also use the Search charm to look for a certain city.

The second question relates to the features that the app has. You already know about the cool looking user interface and the ease of use of the app, but it also offers some great information about the cities you search for. On the main menu, you see at the top of the screen the time and date of the city you are currently observing, and underneath, there is a dial where you see the position of the sun as seen from that location, as well as the time it has spent on the sky in that day. Underneath the Sun dial, the developers have added a box where famous quotes are show. While this is not a part of the overall theme of the app, it does offer a plus of functionality or at the very least some reading material as you look how the sun passes through the sky.

On the right side, you will see the list of cities, of which the free app only has 5, but if you want more, you can upgrade and get up to 500 (yes, 500) cities. After the city list, you will find a Details area, where the Sun Follow app for Windows 8 gives some extra information:

Timezone (of the currently selected city) GPS Location Time of Dawn Time of Sunrise Time of Solar Noon Time of Sunset Time of Dusk Total Day Light Total Civil Day Light Total Darkness

Apart from this, Sun Follow for Windows 8 does not do anything else, but if you are interested in a world clock that looks great and offers some extra information on over 500 cities around the world, then I can honestly say that this app will get the job done. Download Sun Follow for Windows 8
