However, avoiding a Microsoft compatibility hold doesn’t always guarantee that a machine will have no compatibility issues with the Windows 10 May 2020 Update. That’s the hard fact that some users have come to accept after the OS caused audio issues with their PCs.
Windows 10 2004 sound issues
Recently on the Microsoft Answers forum, a user reported that they kept losing their Windows 10 2004 PC audio. It seems that they’re using NVDIA and Sony audio devices, both of which tend to disappear from the device manager list. Windows 10 2004 audio complications date back to the OS’ prerelease days. A couple of months ago, a Windows insider claimed on Reddit that their system lost sound after updating to a beta version of Windows 10 2004. Another user on the Answers forum laments: Here’s yet another recent May 2020 Update audio concern: But the machines in question should be compatible with Windows 10 version 2004, which is why Microsoft offered them the OS in the first place. The good news is that some of the affected users resolved the issues after troubleshooting their audio device. Updating sound card drivers also seems to work for others.
