Another browser, Chrome, is the most popular now. So, Microsoft is employing all manner of tricks to bring Edge to the attention of Windows 10 users looking for rival browsers.

Microsoft Edge Windows search promo

According to Bleeping Computer, Windows 10 users are encountering Microsoft Edge ads whenever they try searching for a rival browser. So, when you launch Chrome or another browser by searching it first in Windows 10, you’ll likely get an ad recommending Edge. This is neither the first nor the last time the Redmond-based tech giant is pushing ads for its new Chromium-based browser to Chrome or Firefox users. For example, some OneDrive users have been getting a similar promo when they access their accounts via a competing browser. However, at least you can get rid of the banner ad in OneDrive by clicking the close button. However, there’s no way to remove or close the Windows 10 search Edge ads that Bleeping Computer reported recently. Users have in the past complained about potentially intrusive promos that Microsoft likes to push across its platforms from time to time. The latest Edge campaign is likely to attract the same negative sentiments, especially if it’s impossible for users to disable or close the ads. Nonetheless, the new Microsoft Edge is much improved, compared to legacy Edge that Windows 10 isn’t supporting. Microsoft isn’t the only tech company promoting its browser through in-app ads, though. In fact, Google is delivering a similar promo for Chrome to Edge users with Gmail accounts. As always, feel free to share your thoughts or ask any questions via the comments section below.
