These are lightweight notifications that show you the current status of a certain Windows 10 Universal app. These notifications function the same way as badge notifications on Live Tiles. For example, if you have Windows 10’s Outlook app open and a new email arrives, the badge notification will show up.

Badge notifications are shown next to app’s icon in the task bar but if you enabled notifications for that app, the notification will also show up in the Action Center (which also received significant changes and improvements in the latest Windows 10 Preview build).

Turn taskbar badge notifications on/off

Unlike some features that also arrived with the latest Windows 10 Preview build, Microsoft included the option to disable taskbar badge notifications. So, if you don’t like badge notifications and don’t want to receive them anymore, you can easily turn them off. If badge notifications are turned off, you can turn them on again, but badge notifications are turned on by default in Windows 10 Preview build 14328, so this is an unlikely scenario. To turn taskbar badge notifications on or off, do the following: As you can see, turning taskbar badge notifications is very easy. As you can probably tell by yourself, this option is only available on Windows 10 Preview as Microsoft will deliver it to the public version with the Anniversary update.
