Xbox Mouse Support Could Land With The Next Insider Build

Microsoft rolled out the new Fall Xbox update

The company included a revamped dashboard, 1080p game DVR recording, a new light theme, and other new features. A future Xbox Update will also include new avatars, game gifting, and Xbox backwards compatibility. Excitingly, future builds for the Alpha Ring on the Xbox Insider Program might also include mouse support.

Mouse control to become an option in competitive play

The mouse menu will be placed under Kinect & devices in the main settings menu. For now, it only lets you control the pointer speed, and only works in apps and games with API support. Currently, only Minecraft supports mouse and keyboard inputs for gaming on Xbox, but this will definitely expand in the future. Microsoft stated that it would not encourage developers to force cross-peripheral competitive play. In other words, gamers who are using a controller will not be forced to fight mouse and keyboard players in competitive shooters. This doesn’t mean that the option will not be available, though. All in all, mouse control will become an available option in competitive play. It will also be available in co-operative and single-player experiences for gamers who want it. Halo Wars 2 is probably the perfect game to test such a move since real-time strategy players who use mouse and keyboard inputs can achieve a higher number of actions per minute compared to gamers who use only a controller.
